This tree gum may be called Manila elemi or Java almond. Smells slightly green and herby, mostly soft and floral. Elemi is used topically to help wounds heal and close. It is balsamic, analgesic and antiseptic. Used as an inhalant at the start of an illness it strengthens the immune system. Used during the cold or other respiratory ailment it eases cough and congestion. Can be employed in massage to stimulate the thymus gland and for its effect on the mind. Elemi can be very soothing and balancing to the stressed individual.
